Free health screenings, educational activities, silent auction, motivational speaker and fashion show were all part of American Heart Association’s 15-year-old Go Red for Women program. Nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes, but cardiovascular diseases continue to be the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of one in three women, according to the AHA, which says that each year, more women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. To continue to raise awareness and empower women to make heart health a priority, Go Red for Women invited Baton Rouge to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, and take to social media including #BRGoRed #WearRedDay #WeGotThis. Key buildings in Baton Rouge also joined the American Heart Association to raise awareness, by using red exterior lighting red Friday. The 2020 Baton Rouge Go Red for Women luncheon was chaired by Stephanie Anderson, member of the American Heart Association’s Southeast Board of Directors AND Executive VP and COO of Woman’s Hospital Baton Rouge, and sponsored nationally by CVS Health and locally by Cause Sponsors, John G. Turner and Jerry G. Fischer, and signature sponsors Price LeBlanc Lexus, Ochsner Baton Rouge and Woman’s Hospital.
