Lunch & Learn: Afib and Stroke – What You Need to Know

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is an irregular and often rapid heart rate affecting nearly 3 million Americans. A person with AFib is five times more likely to suffer a stroke than someone with a regular heartbeat. The condition gets progressively worse in most people, but it is treatable. Dr. Lance LaMotte, an interventional cardiologist with Baton Rouge Cardiology Center, will discuss AFib and its related risk factors like stroke and heart failure. He will also discuss treatment options, including a new heart implant surgery using the “Watchman” device for AFib patients dependent on blood thinners.
