Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

The AAA screening for abdominal aneurysm is a noninvasive, ultrasound test that checks for an abnormal dilation of the abdominal aorta. The abdominal aorta is the major blood vessel that transports blood from your heart to your legs. This abnormal dilation results in a “ballooning” of the abdominal aorta that may potentially rupture.

Rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysms is the 10th leading cause of death in men over 50, but most people do not know that they have an aneurysm. An aneurysm can be effectively treated when it is diagnosed early, but rupture can be fatal in most cases.
